With different sizes and styles of apartments, the Cottage is a unique assisted living community that offers the attention, care, and home-like environment your loved one deserves. Our private apartments come equipped with a private bathroom, emergency alert system, and spacious closet. Each apartment is also cable TV and telephone ready.

Cozy Community Areas

The Cottage designed its community around the premise of cozy common areas for friends to gather and a family-style dining room to enjoy during meal times. With a spacious living room, quiet library, sunny porch, and a warm Country Kitchen, our residents always have a place to read, meet with friends, and enjoy a cup of coffee.

CareSteps

Central to the Cottage's mission is CareSteps, the customized personal care program that provides just the right kind of help at the right time. Along with this individualized care program, Cottage services include:

  • 24-hour staff attention
  • Three home-style meals daily
  • Weekly thorough housekeeping and daily tidy up
  • Scheduled transportation
  • Planned off and on-site recreation
  • Weekly personal laundry

Meet The Staff
Susan Abercrombie

Susan Abercrombie

Senior Managing Director

Susan Abercrombie, LPN, has 29 years of nursing experience caring for seniors in assisted living and doctors’ offices. She is currently the Senior Managing Director at Country Cottage in Decatur & Columbia Cottage in Hartselle.

Before joining us at the Cottage, she worked as an office manager and nurse for a local physician. She also has experience in assisted living facilities and greatly enjoys working with seniors. “They have so much to offer us, and it’s my goal to help them with whatever needs they have. I try to give them 100% all the time,” she says.

Susan is originally from Moulton but now lives in Hartselle with her husband of 28 years, Tim, and their two dogs, Sydney and Macy. She is a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Moulton.

Kelly Looney

Kelly Looney

Resident Services Director

Kelly Looney serves as the Resident Services Director at Country Cottage. She has over three years experience working in healthcare, two of those years were spent caring specifically for Alzheimer’s patients as as a personal sitter.

 "I really enjoy working at the Cottage, because I love to help seniors. The residents mean a lot to me, and it brings me joy to be able to spend time with them and help them in anyway I can,” she says.

Kelly is originally from Decatur but moved to Hartselle about ten years ago. She has three daughters, Brittany, Caitlin, and Haley, and spends most of her free time with her kids. Kelly and her family are members of First Holy Church of Christ in Decatur.

Greg Dykes

Greg Dykes

Regional Managing Director

Greg comes to the Cottages with over 12 years of experience caring for seniors in a variety of environments including rehabilitation, independent care, assisted living and more. He has a true passion for helping families make the right choice for caring for their loved ones. He attended Troy University and is a licensed Assisted Living Administrator. Before joining the Cottage family, Greg has helped provide care to seniors in a variety of settings.

"I love the Cottages' commitment to caring for our Residents," says Greg. "Through 'The Cottage Way' we are truly able to help them remain independent and care for them in a tiny personalized way, and I think that is the key to making them feel at home and happy."

At home, Greg enjoys spending time with his wife, Laura, and his two children, Evan and Laura Beth. He loves to garden and spends much of his time outdoors growing lilies and roses. He also enjoys golfing with his son. He and his family attend Church of the Highlands on Grants Mill Road in Birmingham, AL.
