Dementia Care
Montgomery, AL

For the person who needs gentle, constant care and cueing because of dementia, including Alzheimer’s, Holly Cottage offers a wonderful opportunity for family-style living, specially trained, nurse-supervised staff, customized service plan, nurse administered medications, and our unique “24 Hours of Activities” recreation program are just a few of the features that are possible care alternatives for your family.

5 Reasons To Choose
Holly Cottage for your loved one with memory loss

More Staff
Holly Cottage is our city's only Specialty Care Residence with a maximum resident capacity of 16. We have 2 dedicated Homemakers working with residents 24 hours a day. Additionally, our RN Managing Director provides medication administration service to Holly residents 10 times per week, in addition to her monthly assessment of Holly resident health and wellness. Our Resident Services Director spends nearly one-third of her work week with Holly residents, and is supported by our weekend coordinator and weekend nurse. Larger specialty care assisted living communities may have more staff but have less actual one-on-one staff time devoted to resident care. (1) In fact, Holly Cottage staffing can be as much as 78% higher than some other area specialty care programs.

More Commitment
It takes a very large heart with a great deal of compassion and patience to serve people suffering from dementia with the care they deserve. At Holly Cottage, we have many of those incredible hearts. Our staff’s average tenure is three years!! When compared to the annual turnover rate for nurses in long-term care which is about 70%, and two out of three long-term care workers leave their jobs in a year, our staff is committed to the care of Alzheimer’s and dementia residents.(4) No wonder residents who have had difficulty in other specialty care residences do so well in Holly Cottage!(2)

Fewer Residents
Although research supports the idea that people suffering from Alzheimer’s or other dementia benefit from being around other people, research also strongly shows that too much of a good thing, especially other people with needs, is upsetting and frightening for folks with dementia. With the guarantee that only 15 other people will ever be neighbors, Holly residents enjoy just the right amount of companionship to meet each of their needs to stay involved and connected.

HollySimplest Building
Advice from such noted consumer and research organizations such as the Alzheimer’s Association, Alzheimer’s Foundation and Caregivers Foundation strongly recommend the KEEP IT SIMPLE approach to dementia care. Because all paths at Holly Cottage lead directly to our warm cozy, living room and the safe courtyard next to it, residents learn their way quickly with our help. The confidence that comes from this knowing is priceless!(3)

Shortest Distances
The longest distance a Holly Cottage resident travels from a bed-sitting room to the living room is 29 STEPS! Like the simplicity of the building, this modest distance encourages residents to stay physically active, which in turn helps with minimizing the agitation, sundowning and other distressing symptoms of a dementing illness.
