SUPERVISOR: Managing Director

PRIMARY WORK AREA: Cottage, Office, and Resident’s Apartment
The list of duties and responsibilities described in this job description is a general outline of activities to be undertaken by a staff member. Basically, this will require caring, alertness and responsiveness on the part of all of us and will often involve performing tasks outside those normal duties outlined in our individual job descriptions.

General Description:
Organizes, directs and supervises all functions and personnel in the Resident Services Department. Responsible for the optimum social, health and welfare of Residents.
    Duties:
  • Functions as Managing Director’s designee in the absence of the Managing Director.
  • General administrative supervision of homemaker staff.
  • Coordinates service provided to Residents.
  • Directs and supervises staff development and training.
  • Keeps the Managing Director informed on all matters and issues.
  • Implements established policies and procedures and suggests additional policies and procedures.
  • Directs and supervises all Resident service and homemakers.
  • Follows established policies and procedures for record keeping and completing forms.
  • Prepares and submits reports for State agencies.
  • Requisitions supplies and equipment, maintains inventory, inspects equipment and furnishings.
  • Develops positive working relationships with Residents, staff, department coordinators, and Managing Director.
  • Continues professional growth through current literature.
  • Fully understands fire, safety, and emergency procedures.
  • Interviews prospective Residents and their families to determine acceptability in conjunction with the Managing Director.
  • Assist in the overall marketing of the Cottage.
  • Works closely with the director of food services to coordinate health care and food service needs.
  • Communicates and counsels on an ongoing basis with Residents and families both verbally and in writing.
  • Recommends change in effective use of space and equipment.
  • Participates in policy and procedures development.
  • Prepares departmental guides, manual, memoranda, etc.
  • Prepares recommendations for ensuing budget year.
  • Works within the current budgetary guidelines.
  • Interprets the budgetary guidelines to staff and maintains control over expenditures.
  • Reviews all expenditures, establishes priorities and makes recommendations for changes.
  • Prepares medications for Residents, assists Resident in taking and monitors medications, which are required.
  • Provides personal care assistance.
  • Supervises and or assists with the serving of Residents’ meals.
  • Monitors and supervises daily personal hygiene of Residents.
  • Reports changes in Residents’ physical condition to family and physician as appropriate.
  • Coordinate the move-in and move-out of Residents.
  • Records observations and activities of Residents.
  • Develops and implements daily recreation program.
  • Prepares monthly activity calendar.
  • May perform additional assigned duties at the direction of the managing director.
  • Performs work on and fills out position checklist, provides department position checklists to Managing Director.
  • Performs all work or assigns work and is responsible for satisfactory completion of work scheduled in the Resident Service Director Checklist.

Qualifications:
Personal: Must have the ability to supervise others. Must be a good listener. Must have an overall "caring" attitude. Must be able to lift 75 pounds unassisted and 125 pounds per person in a two-person lift. Must demonstrate proper body mechanics when required to lift or assist in a lift.
Education: High School graduate; and/or a (optional) Graduate of an approved course in practical nursing. License to practice in this State. CPR certified.
Experience: Must have two years experience in geriatrics or equivalent. Nursing experience not required if the Managing Director has such.
Job Knowledge: Familiar with gerontology and an overall view of health care delivery, including State regulations. Must have the ability to plan and adapt to change.
