Ruby Brackin with her children, Bill Brackin, Tonitia Brackin, and Trudy Lyle

Ruby Brackin lives in Columbia Cottage in Florence, Alabama. She was born on June 15, 1927 and is 89 years old. She was married for 63 years and spent 32 years as a teacher. Her husband passed away in 2004. Ruby has three children—Trudy, Bill, and Tonitia—and six grandchildren.

She and her husband loved to travel together. With the exception of four states that are in the northwest, Ruby has visited 46 of the 50 states. She has also traveled to Aruba, Jamaica, Italy, and Canada. Her favorite memory is of the time that she and her family went on a three-weeks long National Geographic cruise in the 1990s. They got to see an iceberg, and there were native entertainers and huskies on board the ship.

Ruby’s favorite hobbies are playing bingo, going to church services, and doing crafts. She says that the best piece of advice she could ever give someone is: “Treat others as you want to be treated.”
