Leslie Carter

Senior Managing Director

Born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama, Leslie developed an affinity for spending time with seniors through her mother, who loved to include her children in volunteering at local nursing homes. Love took Leslie to southern Illinois where she spent fifteen years. She graduated with her Bachelors in Psychology and Counseling and became a licensed Assisted Living Administrator. Leslie managed three assisted living communities in Illinois.

She truly has found her passion and has devoted her energies to working in the senior housing industry. Family brought Leslie back to Alabama in November of 2011, and today Leslie says she loves Alabama and is happy to be home! Leslie looks forward to each day at the Cottages. “It doesn’t feel like work. I truly enjoy coming to the community every day and visiting with our residents. I learn so much from their stories and life experiences. It is an education that cannot be taught or learned in the classroom.”

Julie Thomas

Resident Services Director

Julie graduated from LPN school in 1993 and went to work at the only place hiring new graduates, a nursing home, and fell in love. She has spent the last 25+ years caring for seniors, and their families. She loves getting to know the residents and knowing she can help to make a difference in their lives.

Julie has been married to Mike for 8 years, and together they have 4 grown daughters, two young sons, and two grandbabies. Her favorite thing to do when she is not at work is spending quality time with her family, and enjoying outdoor recreation.

“My favorite thing about the Cottage is the cozy, home-like environment. It doesn’t feel at all like a facility, but like we are all here together in the comfort of home, with a family atmosphere. It is so important for seniors to know that they have people they can trust and depend on, who will go the extra mile to ensure they are living life to the fullest at this stage,” says Julie.
